Company Noi, female dancers

Rehearsals of "DONNA" Company Noi, Antwerp.  An ode to female dancers.

The Story behind this series:

In 2017 I met Valentina Nigro, founder and choreographer of Company Noi in Antwerp at an interactive dance performance at the Gallo-Roman archeological museum in Belgium. Female dancers moved among antique statues of women and among photographs by the late Marc Lagrange.

I connected with Valentina, one thing led to another and we agreed I could shoot during rehearsals for "DONNA", the piece she was working on at the time.

My fondness of dance goes back a long way.  But I was always the girl too tall in the back when attending classes.

The final performance is the cherry on the cake, but there is a raw beauty watching & photographing rehearsals; the grace, effort & discipline that rhythmically leads to muscle memory is a beautiful process to capture.

To emphasize the motion I wanted to use the available light coming from big windows, moving around constantly while panning or using long exposures.
